One of the top vibes/marimba voices in music today, Arthur has been pleasing audiences and critics around the world for 25 years.  The Chronicle Herald (Canada) wrote, “Lipner belongs to that rare category of master player that includes Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson...who packs his improvisations with cascades and fountains of notes...” He has performed at leading concert halls and festivals throughout the United States, Europe, Far East and Central America - almost thirty countries in all.

Recent  projects have included Arthur’s 10th tour in Brazil, his sixth solo album BRASILIAN VIBES, studio work with Tuvan throat singers ALASH, playing with three bands during Rio de Janeiro Carnival, a concert on a mountaintop in a Norwegian Winter ice music festival, and with the National Dance Company of Ghana in Medie, Ghana.  Arthur’s life, work and musical journeys are documented in the upcoming film TALKING STICKS.  Produced by award -winning filmmaker Marcelo Pontes in Rio de Janeiro, TALKING STICKS is due for release in fall 2009.

Arthur premiered his concerto for Vibes/Marimba soloist, MALLET FANTASIA, in 2005 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. The concerto includes a movement with Childrens Choir. He has performed this piece many times including at PASIC 2008.

Arthur has been recorded on over 30 albums and done hundreds of sessions in NYC and Nashville. He has presented  300+ workshops on six continents at many prestigious music schools including The Juilliard School (NYC) and Sweelinck Conservatory (Amsterdam).

Arthur’s two groundbreaking method books, “The Vibes Real Book” (1996) and “Jazz Mallets: IN SESSION” (2000), plus the just-released collection MILT JACKSON: Transcribed Solos Of the Master (2008), are published by his company MalletWorks Music (www.malletworks.com).  MalletWorks has released some of the most mallet publications and transcriptions in the industry.  Arthur served on the Percussive Arts Society Board of Directors (1998-2006) and is a Contributing Editor for the PAS publication Percussive Notes.

Arthur Lipner believes in using his instruments and music to communicate, in the hopes of bringing a feeling of greater understanding and artistic expression to all kinds of people everywhere. This is the goal of his life’s work as he continues his third decade of performing and teaching around the world.
