One of the top vibes/marimba voices in
music today, Arthur has been pleasing audiences
and critics around the world for 25 years. The
Chronicle Herald (Canada) wrote, “Lipner
belongs to that rare category of master player
that includes Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson...who
packs his improvisations with cascades and
fountains of notes...” He has performed at
leading concert halls and festivals throughout
the United States, Europe, Far East and Central
America - almost thirty countries in all.
Recent
projects have included Arthur’s 10th tour in
Brazil, his sixth solo album
BRASILIAN VIBES,
studio work with Tuvan throat singers ALASH,
playing with three bands during Rio de Janeiro
Carnival, a concert on a mountaintop in a
Norwegian Winter ice music festival, and with
the National Dance Company of Ghana in Medie,
Ghana. Arthur’s life, work and musical journeys
are documented in the upcoming film TALKING
STICKS. Produced by award -winning filmmaker
Marcelo Pontes in Rio de Janeiro, TALKING STICKS
is due for release in fall 2009.

Arthur
premiered his concerto for Vibes/Marimba
soloist, MALLET FANTASIA, in 2005 with
the National Symphony Orchestra of Brazil in Rio
de Janeiro. The concerto includes a movement
with Childrens Choir. He has performed this
piece many times including at PASIC 2008.
Arthur has been
recorded on over 30 albums and done hundreds of
sessions in NYC and Nashville. He has presented
300+ workshops on six continents at many
prestigious music schools including The
Juilliard School (NYC) and Sweelinck
Conservatory (Amsterdam).
Arthur’s two
groundbreaking method books, “The Vibes Real
Book” (1996) and “Jazz Mallets: IN SESSION”
(2000), plus the just-released collection MILT
JACKSON: Transcribed Solos Of the Master (2008),
are published by his company MalletWorks Music (www.malletworks.com).
MalletWorks has released some of the most mallet
publications and transcriptions in the
industry. Arthur served on the Percussive Arts
Society Board of Directors (1998-2006) and is a
Contributing Editor for the PAS publication
Percussive Notes.
Arthur Lipner
believes in using his instruments and music to
communicate, in the hopes of bringing a feeling
of greater understanding and artistic expression
to all kinds of people everywhere. This is the
goal of his life’s work as he continues his
third decade of performing and teaching around
the world.
